I'm an American currently living in the Republic of Palau (ten points if you know where that is) and I'm moving to Auckland hopefully by this September to live with my boyfriend, who is a citizen.

I'm contemplating using an immigration consulting service, partly because it's very difficult to accomplish anything where I live, since there is no NZ embassy. Does anyone have experience with these services? I'm caught in a bit of a Catch 22 because I'll have enough points for automatic residency once I get a job offer, but it seems like all of the jobs I want and am qualified for require residency to apply. I'd rather have my job and visa lined up before I get to Auckland, but I do have the option to move over on a visitor visa and search while I'm there. What are your experiences? How long did you find it took to get your work visas?

Any information will help me at this point. Thanks!
  • I'm in the same boat. I'm like 3 point short of automatic qualification, and the only thing that would put me over 140 points is if I get a job offer. But I can't seem to get a job offer unless I'm in the country seeking one! Finding a credible job over the Internet while 7000 miles away is not easy.
